About

As is typical of most artists, I grew into art and art making in an organic way. I have created art, in some form, my whole life: drawing and painting in high school, sculpture and printing making in University, and finally, when left to my own devices, I found photography. 

I studied photography during my undergraduate degree and was deeply effected by how it made me feel, and how it challenged my ways of seeing. Viewing images such as Humphrey Lloyd Hime’s “The prairie, on the banks of the Red River, looking south” (1858) and being taught to think of these photographs as documents, and not as art objects, pushed me to change how I had previously thought of photography. Photography can be art. It can also be a document or record that serves a visual purpose beyond art or memory making. 

I want to challenge ways of seeing, and I strive to give pause, to inspire others to take a closer look, and to imagine the possibilities. Images that make viewers think, that gives them pause and creates a story in their minds, something that can allow the creation of a narrative, guided by my imagery. My goal is to create art that is organic, something which will grow in its own direction and evoke meaning for the viewer.
